If golden hour is your favorite hour..

sameee! I have a ton of clients that reach out and want those warm and glowy sessions that lead right into the cool blue tones that come out with the moon and it is my favorite time of day to shoot.

But being a mom of three boys, I also know that booking an evening golden hour session in July when it isn't the hottest part of the day means we have to wait til around 7:30pm to start shooting and when my kids were toddlers -- that was our witching hour and I wouldn't be caught dead with them out of the house, let alone dressed and ready for some cute family photos. If this resonates with you, you want to book your session for Spring or late Fall or maybe do a sunrise golden hour instead.

Lining up the timing of these sessions can be tricky with routines, here is a good look at the year ahead to you can get an idea of what month to book your golden hour photos based on the timing of the sun in our area.

April is around 7-8:30am and 6-7:30pm.

May is around 6-7:30am and 6:30-8:00pm.

June and July is around 5:45-7:15am and 7-8:30pm.

August is around 6-7:30am and 6:30-8:15pm.

September is around 6:30-8:00am and 6-7:30pm.

October is around 7-8:30am and 5:30-6:45pm

November is around 7-8:30am and 4:30-6:00pm.

December is around 6-7:30am and 3:15-4:45pm.

Also, depending on the location of your session - sometimes you can get away with creating a golden hour look without it actually being golden hour. Like, if I am shooting an evening golden hour at Ferry Point - I like to start shooting about 45 minutes before sunset because the sun sets on the other side of the island so it turns to blue hour quicker there. If I am shooting an evening golden hour session at Terrapin Beach - I like to start shooting about 15-20 minutes before sunset because the sun sets literally right there on the beach.

It's the opposite for when I shoot at sunrise. At Ferry Point - we want to right at sunrise because the sun rises right on the Chester River. At Terrapin Beach - we can actually go like 30-45 minutes after sunrise because the sun is rising on the opposite side of the island. I am always up for a sunrise session, it is such a fun way for me to start my day.

I am looking forward to creating in the sun with you this year!
